You can trust you’ll be in the competent hands of Roan Heming, founder and director of Human Performance Hub. Roan’s passion for health, nutrition and the fitness industry over the past 20 years led him to coach many diverse clients anywhere from corporate high flyers to television celebrities. 

In 2015, Roan opened a private consulting gym where he educated other personal trainers and hosted numerous seminars from functional medicine to hypertrophy camps and coaching courses from leading professionals worldwide.

Based in Guildford, Surrey, UK, Roan works with clients of all ages and abilities ranging from busy mothers, business executives, and high-performance athletes. 

How does a personal training program work?

Our training programs begin with a thorough assessment of strength, balance and power, body fat analysis, as well as a detailed look at your current nutritional intake and lifestyle. 

Goal Setting

No matter your specific goals – whether it’s running faster, jumping higher, returning from an injury or losing weight – there are always two non-specific goals we follow:  

  1. More energy
  2. Better sleep

These are independent of your actual goals. That’s because the more energy you have and the better you sleep, the easier it is to achieve your targets.  

Nutrition

For the body to perform, recover and rebuild optimally, we must address proper nutrition. We start with a detailed health story evaluation to understand your physical limitations, daily energy levels, sleep patterns, and genetic risk factors. Following this is a 14-point body fat assessment to reveal where your body stores fat and expose possible hormonal imbalances.

We may use various functional medical tests to focus on further issues surrounding peak health and performance. And we’ll recommend a customised protocol of targeted nutritional supplements and revisit it throughout, depending on your changing needs.

Skin-fold (Biosignature) Analysis

Initially developed by world-renowned strength coach and fitness legend Charles Poliquin, the program unites the best approaches from holistic and functional medicine based upon the correlation between body fat storage and hormonal imbalances.

The skin-fold assessment measures your body fat across 14 specific sites throughout the body, from cheek to calf, using a skin-fold calliper. Calculation of the skin folds, along with a subjective assessment of your sleep and lifestyle patterns, gives us insight into your body’s stress level, genetic insulin sensitivity, sex hormones, thyroid function and more. From your measurements, we can address the causes and not just treat the symptoms.

Skin-fold measurements produce quantitative data that make it easy to track and monitor progress. For example, based on the BioSignature model: 

  • If your priority area is excess body fat held on your thighs, we have to look at digestion and support of your detoxification system. 
  • If your priority areas are triceps and chest, we’ll need to support your androgen levels. 
  • If your priority areas are shoulder blades and hips, we’ll investigate your insulin levels. 
  • If your priority area is excess weight around your stomach, we’ll need to review your cortisol levels. 

Depending on your measurements, we’ll modify your lifestyle, sleep, nutrition and supplements to reach optimal hormone levels, the driving force to fast fat loss and overall health.

Option 1 – Face-to-face

  • 1 x Initial consultation (60-75 minutes)
  • 9 x Follow-up appointments (workouts) (45-60 minutes)
  • Movement, postural and structural balance screen 
  • Skin-fold analysis and access to functional medicine testing (if required)
  • Personalised nutrition and supplement plan from the results of the Skin-fold analysis 
  • Unlimited email and messaging support between sessions, so you never have to wait to get an answer to any questions

Option 2 – Online

  • 1 x Initial Skype consultation (60-75 minutes)
  • 9 x Follow-up Skype appointments (workouts) (45-60 minutes)
  • Movement, postural and structural balance screen 
  • Access to functional medicine testing (if required)
  • Personalised nutrition and supplement plan from the results of the initial consultation
  • Unlimited email and messaging support between sessions, so you never have to wait to get an answer to any questions

Timeframe

Each 3-4 week phase of coaching comprises 2-4 workouts per week. We use a variety of testing modalities to design each individual’s specific program and monitor progress. 

For our athletes, we provide off-season and in-season programming. The sport-specific training program consists of 2-5 personalised workouts per week (on- or off-season dependent) designed to maintain strength and prevent injuries. You’ll also receive an in-depth, easy to follow nutrition and supplement plan.
